Scott Hartley of Ann Arbor, Michigan, won first place at the North Shore Art League's (NSAL) 14th annual Art in the Village juried show, which drew more than 70 artists to Hubbard Woods Park in Winnetka on Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14.

Marie Lamothe of Interlochen, Michigan, took second place. Jonathan Rutledge of Evanston placed third. Honorable mentions went to Jeff Condon of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Jack Kraig of Evanston; Ning Lee of Northbrook; and Samuel Yao of Ann Arbor.

Executive Director Linda Nelson presented certificates and prize checks to the winners and said the event drew both new and returning artists, crediting league staff and volunteers for its success.

Judges Cynthia Burr, owner of Vivid Art Gallery on Green Bay Road in Winnetka, and Michael Van Zeyl, an NSAL faculty member and three-time Gold Medal winner at Chicago's Palette & Chisel Academy, selected the winners from a field that included oil paintings, mixed media, photography, and sculpture.

The free show ran 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days at the park at 939 Green Bay Road, in the heart of the Hubbard Woods Design District. Faculty member Lisa DePinto painted quick oil portraits on site. A silent auction of donated artwork and a raffle with prizes from local businesses raised money for NSAL's educational outreach programs.

The Art League, founded in 1924 and based at the Winnetka Community House, serves more than 1,000 students annually and receives no tax support. Byline Bank served as lead sponsor, with additional support from the Village of Winnetka, Winnetka Park District, Hubbard Woods Design District, and Winnetka-Northfield-Glencoe Chamber of Commerce.

NSAL's next outdoor show is a "Summer on the North Shore" pop-up at Central Station Coffee & Tea in Wilmette during August. The artist application deadline is Tuesday, July 14.
