The Chicago Botanic Garden's Butterflies & Blooms exhibit closes for the season on Monday, Sept. 7. North Shore families have until that date to walk through the 2,800-square-foot mesh enclosure filled with live butterflies on the Regenstein Learning Campus in Glencoe.

The exhibit opened May 23 and houses species native to South America, Asia, Africa, North America and Illinois. Visitors can watch butterflies land, feed and fly at close range inside the enclosed habitat, which sits among the Garden's 385 acres at 1000 Lake Cook Road.

No separate ticket is required. Butterflies & Blooms is included with general admission and Garden membership, according to the Garden's season-opening announcement on X.

The Garden urged visitors on Aug. 25 to make time for the exhibit before it wraps. The post highlighted the chance to see species native to Illinois alongside tropical butterflies from South America and Asia.

Still time for Shimmering Summer

Butterflies & Blooms isn't the only seasonal attraction winding down. Shimmering Summer, a trail of large-scale iridescent bubble art installations, runs through Sept. 20, according to the Garden's online calendar. Visitors can catch both exhibits on the same trip through early September.

The Garden is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Members-only access begins at 8 a.m. For exhibit-specific hours and details, the Garden directs visitors to chicagobotanic.org/butterflies.

What comes next

After Butterflies & Blooms wraps, the Garden's next major attraction is Night of 1,000 Jack-o'-Lanterns. The nighttime trail of artist-carved pumpkins runs for 15 evenings from Oct. 7 through Oct. 25.
