Parents at Central, Harper, McKenzie, Romona, Highcrest and Wilmette Junior High will get their first look Monday night at what District 39 plans to do about teacher well-being, when the board delivers its formal response to a community committee report that flagged the issue three months ago.
The Board of Education meets Monday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Mikaelian Education Center, 615 Locust Road. The centerpiece agenda item is the district's response to the Community Review Committee's report titled "Supporting Educator Well-Being," which a volunteer committee first presented to the board in May. The district has not yet released details of its response publicly.
The board will also hear the annual enrollment report, conduct its yearly tax compliance review and hold a first reading of several board policies. The full board packet is typically posted the Friday before each meeting. Meetings are live-streamed on the district's YouTube channel.
School safety Zoom with Wilmette PD
On Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m., District 39 and the Wilmette Police Department are co-hosting a free parent Zoom titled "Responding to School Safety Incidents: The Standard Response Protocol."
The district has adopted the Standard Response Protocol across all buildings. Developed by the I Love U Guys Foundation after a 2006 school shooting in Colorado, the framework replaces ambiguous emergency codes with five plain-language actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate and Shelter. It is now used in more than 60,000 schools worldwide.
Online registration is required and is now open at wilmette39.org.
Transportation waitlist updates begin this week
Transportation liaison Michelle McGregor will begin notifying waitlisted families of their updated bus status the week of Aug. 24. Requests are processed in the order received. Families who receive a spot must pay by Thursday, Sept. 3; bus passes will be available at school offices Tuesday, Sept. 8, with rides starting Wednesday, Sept. 9.
