Nine Glencoe residents will begin sorting out a year's worth of complaints about parking, littering and disruptive behavior along Longwood Avenue, Hazel Avenue and other streets near Glencoe Beach and Lakefront Park.

The Glencoe Village Board unanimously approved the task force members at its Aug. 19 meeting, choosing from 25 applicants, The Record North Shore reported. The group's first session is set for Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Takiff Center.

Village President Howard Roin said the Village Board and Glencoe Park District created the Lakefront Parking Task Force "to look into what are the facts and what should we do, if anything, to fix any problems that are there."

Roin called the 25 applications "a terrific response." The boards selected three residents from west Glencoe, three from the central village and three from near the beach to balance perspectives across the community.

The nine voting members are Stefanie Boron, Julianna Ethell, Lee Feder, Aaron Goltz, Michael LaPorte, Andre Lerman, James Rosenfield, Jon Ruderman and Maggie Shapack. Luca Cacela will serve as a nonvoting youth member. A village trustee and a park commissioner will co-chair the group, though neither name has been announced.

The task force is advisory. Any recommendations will go to the Village Board and the Glencoe Park District Board, which retain final authority over parking rules and beach operations, respectively, according to the village's task force posting. The group is expected to wrap up by January 2027.

Complaints from homeowners on Longwood Avenue, Hazel Avenue, Park Avenue, Beach Road and Sheridan Road drove the village to act earlier this year. The Village Board approved zoning changes in the spring, raising parking fines to $100 on those streets and around Lakefront Park, according to the village's lakefront update. The Park District extended beach staffing to 8 p.m., striped parallel parking spaces on Longwood, Hazel and Beach Road, and boosted litter pickup to seven days a week, according to the Park District's beach-changes page.

Those steps did not quiet the issue.

Residents packed the council chambers and demanded officials do more, leading to the task force's creation.

Separately, Glencoe Beach will close Tuesday, Sept. 8, for a construction project that includes updates to the playground, sun shelters, trellis, beach house, boardwalk and boat storage. That work is expected to finish in May 2027.

After the Sept. 16 opener, task force members are expected to meet again in October, November and December. Meeting dates and agendas have not been posted.
