Green Bay Road drivers in Glencoe, Winnetka and Kenilworth face lane closures and parking disruptions through late October.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is resurfacing the road across all three villages, according to a Village of Kenilworth civic alert posted Oct. 14. The project covers road patching along various sections of Green Bay Road from Glencoe's southern boundary through Winnetka and into Kenilworth.

IDOT awarded the contract to Peter Baker and Son.

Construction schedule

Kenilworth's posted schedule, subject to change, lays out three phases:

  • Week of Oct. 12 — Saw cutting
  • Week of Oct. 19 — Asphalt removal and paving
  • Week of Oct. 26 — Final restoration and project completion

Parking along Green Bay Road may be limited during the work. IDOT plans intermittent lane closures and altered traffic patterns. Signage and flaggers will alert drivers and property owners to changes as crews move through each section.

Access to homes and businesses within the construction zone will be maintained throughout the project, Kenilworth said.

Separate Winnetka road project also ahead

Winnetka residents on the west side of the village also face a separate road project on Willow Road. The village has been working with IDOT on the reconstruction of Willow Road from roughly 100 feet east of Forest Way Drive to Provident Avenue, according to a Winnetka news posting. That project, tied to stormwater system upgrades, is expected to begin west of Hibbard Road before the end of 2026 and wrap up by the end of 2027.
