New Trier High School is holding its first Career Day on Saturday, Oct. 24, and the district needs parent and alumni volunteers now.

The four-hour event, running 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Winnetka Campus (385 Winnetka Ave.), will feature a speaker series, one-on-one discussion tables where students can explore career interests with professionals, and a dedicated space for resume review, LinkedIn profile help and interview practice.

The district's announcement, posted Tuesday, Aug. 11, said the goal is to expose students to career pathways reflecting the current and future workforce, including both trades and skilled professions and those requiring college degrees. For a school known for its college-preparatory track, the explicit inclusion of certifications, military service and entrepreneurship alongside four-year degree paths marks a broadening of how New Trier frames post-graduation success.

The district is recruiting volunteers more than two months before the event and a week before the first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 19. Parents, alumni and local professionals can sign up through the New Trier Career Partnership Form. The form also covers longer-term partnership opportunities including guest speaking, internships, mentorship and providing company resources.

The announcement is district-wide, suggesting Career Day is open to students from both the Winnetka Campus (sophomores, juniors and seniors) and the Northfield Campus (freshmen), though the district has not specified which grade levels may attend.

The announcement does not address accommodations for students with IEPs or 504 plans.
