New Trier boys soccer beat Chicago Prosser 7-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 20, earning a spot in the Class 3A Evanston Regional championship game against rival Evanston at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Lazier Field.

It will be the first postseason meeting between the two programs since 2023.

The No. 4-seeded Trevians and No. 5 Evanston both advanced through Tuesday's regional semifinals, according to the IHSA Class 3A state tournament bracket on Chicagoland Soccer. Evanston eliminated Maine East 2-0 in the other semifinal.

The bracket positions explain why this rivalry game arrives so early. Both squads sit below Taft, Lane Tech and St. Patrick in the DePaul Prep Sectional field. In five previous playoff meetings since 2014, the two programs typically clashed in the sectional semifinals, not the regional round.

New Trier won the regular-season meeting 2-0. Evanston head coach Franz Calixte told the Evanston Roundtable his players have been eager for a rematch since that loss. "By the time they got off the bus [on the way back from New Trier], they all said they were hoping to play New Trier in the playoffs," Calixte said after Tuesday's win.

New Trier coach Matt Ravenscraft set an ambitious tone for his squad early in the season. In an Aug. 30 game story on Chicagoland Soccer, after a nonconference loss to Morton, Ravenscraft said his team was hungry to take major steps and find out how good it could get.

Saturday's winner advances to the DePaul Sectional semifinal on Tuesday, Oct. 27, against the Taft Regional winner. The sectional championship is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30.
