Tragos and ETHS Superintendent Marcus Campbell announced a joint investigation Sunday, Oct. 18. Tragos and Dubravec subsequently addressed the allegations at New Trier’s Oct. 19 school board meeting.

The warning from Winnetka Campus Principal Denise Dubravec came days after allegations that New Trier fans directed racist and homophobic behavior toward ETHS marching band members during an Oct. 16 football game at Ryan Field. Superintendent Peter Tragos and Dubravec used the PA address to urge students to reflect on their role in making the school a welcoming place, New Trier News reported Oct. 22.

"Students who do not follow these expectations will be asked to leave and may face additional school consequences," Dubravec said, according to New Trier News.

Dubravec asked fans to practice "positive sportsmanship" toward ETHS players at the Oct. 24 regional game, which will be hosted at ETHS. She told students that falling short "reinforce[s] negative perceptions of our school's culture."

Tragos said the alleged behavior at Ryan Field "not only hurts the victims, but also harms students and staff in our community." He acknowledged that negative publicity around the incident may also hurt New Trier students and said advisory periods would give students a chance to reflect.

The two administrators announced a joint investigation with ETHS on Sunday, Oct. 18, and acknowledged the allegations at a New Trier Board of Education meeting on Monday, Oct. 19, according to New Trier News. No findings or disciplinary outcomes from that investigation have been publicly announced.

New Trier faces ETHS in the Class 3A regional championship at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Lazier Field in Evanston.
