Before the doorbell rings
Glencoe's Halloween weekend begins a day early. The annual Halloween Hello event, organized by the Winnetka-Northfield-Glencoe Chamber of Commerce, takes over downtown Glencoe on Friday, Oct. 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Families can trick-or-treat at participating businesses and visit the Glencoe Historical Society's "Ghosts in the Garden" experience at Eklund Garden. The free event also includes activities at the Glencoe Public Library and a "Village Hall-oween" at Village Hall.
In Northfield, the park district hosts its Boo Bash on Friday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 401 Wagner Road, according to The Record North Shore. The event features games, crafts, a balloonist and a train ride through Willow Park. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Wilmette's Centennial Ice Rink, at 2300 Old Glenview Road, holds its Spooky Skate on Oct. 31 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Skaters of all ages can come in costume for games and a costume contest. Entry costs $8 for students, $9 for adults and $4 for ages 5 and under.
Safety reminders
Northfield police advise trick-or-treaters to cross only at crosswalks or corners, wear bright or reflective materials and have young children accompanied by an adult. Glencoe officials recommend flame-resistant costumes that don't obstruct vision, carrying a flashlight or glow bracelet and staying home if feeling unwell.
