Paper towels, laundry detergent, shampoo. They're the basics that keep a household running, and food stamps won't cover them.
On Wednesday, Aug. 19, the Northbrook Farmers Market is hosting Summer Stock 2026, a collection drive for the Northfield Township Food Pantry focused entirely on household and personal-care items that fall outside SNAP benefits. Northfield Township Supervisor Shiva Mohsenzadeh is backing the effort, and the township will staff a table at the market with information about the pantry and other services available to residents, according to event organizers.
The most-needed items include paper towels and toilet paper, laundry detergent, dish soap, women's personal hygiene products, shampoo and lotion. Cash donations are also accepted.
"We are honored to sponsor a collection drive for the food pantry," said Magdy Abd, an Edward Jones financial advisor in Northbrook who is co-sponsoring the drive with colleague Saad Alhiti. "It's all about community."
Donors can drop items at the Welcome Booth between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Volunteers will help unload donations from cars.
The drive builds on a quieter effort that runs every Wednesday throughout the market season: volunteers collect fresh produce donated by farmers and deliver it to the Northfield Township Food Pantry. Over the years, those weekly donations have totaled more than 100,000 pounds of fresh food, according to market organizers.
The pantry, located at 2550 Waukegan Road, Suite 200, in Glenview, provides emergency food assistance to Northfield Township residents. The township, which has served the community since 1850, operates the pantry.
