Five car burglaries, two stolen Segways and a damaged surveillance camera added up to a busy 11 days for Northfield and Winnetka police between Aug. 12 and Aug. 23.

Northfield car burglaries

Northfield police reported five car burglaries over two days. Four were reported on Friday, Aug. 21, and a fifth on Saturday, Aug. 22, according to The Record North Shore. The break-ins hit the 300 block of Lagoon Drive, the 300 block of Linder Avenue, the 200 block of Lockwood Avenue and the 100 block of Avon Avenue, where two incidents were reported.

No arrests have been announced.

Flock camera damaged on Winnetka Road

A Flock Safety surveillance camera was damaged on Sunday, Aug. 23, in the 2300 block of Winnetka Road in Northfield. The incident follows a separate report from Friday, Aug. 7, when a Flock license-plate-reading camera was removed from a pole near Lake Cook Road and Skokie Valley Road in Highland Park.

Flock cameras capture license plate images with date, time and location data. Northfield participates in the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force, a regional data-sharing network whose members include Glencoe, Kenilworth, Wilmette, Winnetka and several other municipalities. Wilmette's Village Board has approved installation of 22 Flock units by the end of 2026.

Whether the damage to the Northfield camera was deliberate has not been publicly confirmed.

Segways stolen in Winnetka

Two unsecured Segways were reported stolen from a Winnetka property sometime between Wednesday, Aug. 12, and Wednesday, Aug. 19. No further details on the location or value of the devices were available.

Quiet elsewhere

Wilmette, Glencoe and Kenilworth reported no notable incidents during their respective reporting periods. Residents who observe suspicious activity can contact Northfield police at 847-446-4481 or Winnetka police at 847-501-6034.

None of the Aug. 12-23 incidents have resulted in arrests, and police have not released suspect descriptions for any of the property crimes.
