"The Martian" author Andy Weir paid $6.8 million in July for a six-bedroom mansion in Winnetka, the Chicago Tribune reported Thursday, Sept. 3.

The science-fiction novelist wrote "The Martian," which became a 2015 film directed by Ridley Scott, and "Project Hail Mary," adapted into a Ryan Gosling-led blockbuster released in March by Amazon MGM Studios. That film earned more than $680 million at the global box office on a reported $200 million budget, according to Collider.

Tribune real estate reporter Bob Goldsborough wrote the story. No street address for the property has been publicly disclosed. The report did not include details about the home beyond its six-bedroom count and $6.8 million price.

Winnetka luxury agent Jena Radnay of @properties Christie's International Real Estate was tagged in the Tribune's coverage in connection with the transaction. Her specific role in the deal was not detailed. Radnay is based at 30 Green Bay Road in Winnetka. Her website describes her as the top-selling agent in Winnetka and New Trier Township.

Weir's audiobook catalog has sold more than 7 million copies on Audible, according to Variety. "Project Hail Mary," published in 2021, debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list.

Weir is also executive producing "Exoplanet," a sci-fi audio thriller written by Benjamin Percy for Audible, set for release Nov. 5. In an August announcement published by Variety, Weir described his creative philosophy: "I'm obsessed with problems, the kind where one person and a lot of math are all that stand between survival and disaster."
