Big Blue Swim School has completed a renovation of its Wilmette location at Edens Plaza and will host a free grand reopening celebration Sept. 26.
The swim school at 3232 Lake Ave., near the intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Lake Avenue, reopens with new showers, tile walls on the pool deck, upgraded changing room partitions, fresh carpeting, new lighting throughout the building, and murals in the lobby and pool area, Patch reported.
The grand reopening runs Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free. The event is open to enrolled families, prospective members and the general public, with a DJ, face painting, balloon artists, snacks and beverages, and tours of the renovated space. New families can sign up for a free trial lesson.
Tom Dolan, president of corporate pools at Big Blue Swim School, said the upgrades are meant to improve the weekly experience for families who use the facility.
"The updates in Wilmette will provide families with a refreshed, comfortable viewing area and the space for children to continue building their skills," Dolan said.
The company did not disclose how much it spent on the renovation or how long the location was closed for construction.
Big Blue is a Chicago-based chain with nearly 60 locations nationwide, according to a franchise trade publication. The company also recently renovated its Buffalo Grove facility, Patch reported separately.
Edens Plaza, a 343,000-square-foot shopping center that has anchored the Lake Avenue corridor since the 1950s, joined the WS Development portfolio in 2022. Big Blue sits alongside tenants including The Fresh Market and Goddess & The Baker.
Big Blue also sponsored the Wilmette Block Party on Aug. 29, operating a Kids Zone booth at the event organized by the Wilmette Park District in partnership with the Village of Wilmette and the Wilmette/Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce.
The grand reopening celebration is at 3232 Lake Ave. in Wilmette.
