A 19-year-old Chicago man is the eighth person charged in federal court for a violent home invasion in Winnetka.

Prosecutors say involved armed suspects holding a resident captive while demanding access to cryptocurrency accounts.

Andrew Franklin was arrested Wednesday, June 3, and charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and kidnapping, according to a second superseding indictment unsealed following his arrest.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois announced the charge Wednesday, June 10.

The invasion took place Sunday, March 8, at a Winnetka residence. Prosecutors allege that co-defendant Dashun Brown, 24, of Chicago, posed as a food delivery driver carrying an Outback Steakhouse bag to get the resident to open the front door. Franklin, Brown, and three others then forced entry while masked and carrying loaded firearms, according to the indictment.

The suspects held the adult resident captive for approximately one hour, using firearms to "physically restrain the victim" while demanding access to a safe, a computer, and cryptocurrency accounts, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

A child who entered the home during the invasion was also restrained.

The resident escaped by biting the finger of the person holding them, then called police. The suspects fled before officers arrived. Victims later reported three Rolex watches and a work laptop missing.

The seven other co-defendants include Isaiah Dukes, 29, a Chicago rapper known as Lil Zay Osama who resides in Los Angeles; his relatives Khiell Dukes, 30, of Elgin, and Anthony Ramsey, 22, of Chicago; along with David Franklin, 24, of Chicago; Jalen Chambers, 24, of Bourbonnais; Tyrese Fenton-Watson, 23, of Chicago; and Brown.

All eight defendants have pleaded not guilty and remain detained without bond pending trial. The kidnapping conspiracy charge carries a maximum sentence of life in federal prison.

Federal prosecutors successfully appealed a magistrate judge's earlier order to release Isaiah Dukes on bond. U.S. District Judge Iain Johnston in Rockford overruled the release order.

The next federal court date is scheduled for Friday, September 11, according to the Chicago Tribune.
