American Writers Museum President Carey Cranston and a panel of authors will explore how writing has shaped religious life in America at a free public lecture inside the Bahá'í House of Worship on Sunday, July 26, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

The program, "American Prophets: Writers, Religion and Culture," is based on the museum's current Chicago exhibit and is co-presented by the New Trier Multifaith Alliance. It takes place in Foundation Hall at 100 Linden Ave., Wilmette.

No registration is required. Refreshments follow. The CTA Purple Line's Linden stop is blocks away, and parking is available onsite.

The Bahá'í House of Worship is the only Bahá'í temple in the United States, a National Historic Landmark that draws roughly 250,000 visitors a year. During World War II, Navy pilots training at the nearby Glenview Naval Air Station called the dome "Point Oboe" and used it as a navigation landmark during practice missions over Lake Michigan, according to the Chicago Architecture Center. The building's nine exterior pillars carry carvings of the Star of David, the Christian cross, and the Islamic star and crescent, reflecting the Bahá'í principle of the unity of all religions.

Panelist names beyond Cranston have not been announced. The New Trier Multifaith Alliance and AWM described the event as "a fascinating presentation and discussion" in their Eventbrite listing.
