New Trier boys soccer tries to end a two-game slide when it hosts Libertyville in a rescheduled Tournament of Champions match Saturday at Robert Naughton Field on the Northfield campus.

The Trevians (5-3-1, 1-1-0 Central Suburban League South) dropped a 4-3 decision to Glenbrook South on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the same field. New Trier led 2-1 and 3-2 before the Titans scored twice in the final 12 minutes, according to Chicagoland Soccer. Nico Urrea scored twice for the Trevians and Brennan Hoffmann added a goal.

"It was a tough loss," New Trier coach Matt Ravenscraft said after the Glenbrook South game. "What's hard is we got away from the way we were playing and what was successful …"

Ravenscraft said the Trevians went too direct and lost their battles in the midfield. He called it a lesson in emotional management.

Saturday's match is part of the Tournament of Champions, a multi-week event that brings together former Illinois state champions. New Trier has won four state titles (1974, 2006, 2008, 2023). Libertyville won in 2015.

The Wildcats (3-3-3, 1-1-2 North Suburban Conference) are coming off a 1-1 draw at No. 18 Stevenson on Wednesday, Sept. 23, a match they played without two ill starters. Senior defender Andrew Snow scored in the 34th minute, his fifth goal of the season. Snow's five goals account for 55 percent of Libertyville's total offense in 2026.

Libertyville coach Kevin Thunholm said after the Stevenson result that his team played a high-level opponent well and did so shorthanded. Goalkeeper Jackson Platt, a first-year varsity senior, made five saves. Before Wednesday's match, Thunholm called Platt a leader who sometimes addresses the team at halftime in his place.

New Trier entered the season with a young roster still searching for its identity. After a 2-1 loss to Morton on Aug. 28, early in the season, Ravenscraft said the group was "hungry to take major steps and see how good it can get." Key players to watch include seniors Gordon Evans, Tristan McGrath, Tim Vaughan and Cole Wilkinson.

The Trevians held the No. 8 spot in Chicagoland Soccer's Week 4 poll, based on results through Sept. 20. No updated ranking reflecting the two-game skid has been published.

Kickoff is 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Robert Naughton Field, 1 Northfield Rd., Northfield.
