The New Trier Hockey Club and Winnetka Hockey Club will share the ice for a three-day celebration starting Friday, Oct. 2, at Winnetka Ice Arena, 490 Hibbard Road.

The joint hockey weekend runs through Sunday evening, Oct. 4, and features a full slate of games, an MVP award for each contest, food trucks and raffles, according to a New Trier Hockey Club announcement posted Sept. 29. Ralph's Red Hots and Taco Nano will have trucks at the rink.

The Fitz ~ Aesthetic Club of Chicago is the event's presenting sponsor.

The two clubs trace their shared ice back to 1972, when the Winnetka Ice Arena opened and the Winnetka Hockey Club was founded. The club originally operated under the name Winfield Hockey Association before adopting its current name, according to the Winnetka Historical Society. New Trier Hockey Club, which describes itself as the largest and most successful high school hockey club in Illinois, was incorporated as a nonprofit in 1974.

Brent Kozel, president of the Winnetka Hockey Club, told The Record North Shore in June that the arena was completed in 1972 and donated to the Winnetka Park District by the club. The Winnetka Hockey Club proposed a $47.5 million renovation and expansion to the Winnetka Park Board in May. The proposal cited the building's age, high maintenance costs, lack of adequate space for female players and growing demand for ice time.

New Trier Hockey Club's teams compete across the Scholastic Hockey League and the Illinois High School Hockey League's North Central Division. The program's JV Blue squad won the state championship in March, beating Brother Rice 4-0 for the program's first JV title since 2010. Head coach Brandon Warnes said after the March win, "We knew we had a special group at the start of the season with so much skill."

Specific game times for the weekend have been published on Instagram.

The clubs said schedules and additional details would be shared on Instagram at @nthockey_official and @winnetkahockeyclub.
