New Trier girls volleyball swept Evanston Township High School 25-18, 25-17 on Monday, Sept. 28, at Beardsley Gymnasium.

The Trevians have owned this rivalry for so long that no player on the current ETHS roster was alive the last time the Wildkits won, the Evanston RoundTable reported. The streak stretches back more than 20 years.

For New Trier, the win was another routine Central Suburban League result for a program riding three consecutive supersectional appearances in IHSA Class 4A. The Trevians carry eight seniors, including outside hitters Kate Andersons and Serena Bauer, setters Sophia Farina and Nora Murdock, and middles Mia Fitzpatrick and Charlie Cohen.

Bauer, a three-year varsity player committed to Claremont McKenna College, set the tone for this senior class early in the season. In a Sept. 2 interview with The Record North Shore, she said the seniors are hungry after falling short in the same playoff round three years running.

The match itself was never close. New Trier took the first set 25-18. Six of Evanston's 18 points came on Trevians' serving errors. In the second set, New Trier jumped to a 12-3 lead and the Wildkits never got closer than six points.

ETHS head coach Mike McDermott told the RoundTable his team is still searching for an identity. The Wildkits have no designated team captain. Their roster features only four seniors, one junior, seven sophomores and a a few freshmen.

New Trier coach Hannah Hsieh said after the Trevians' season-opening win Sept. 1 that her experienced roster has its sights set on a deep postseason run. The team adopted the motto "We>Me" this fall, emphasizing depth across every position.
