New Trier's girls soccer team finished No. 2 in the nation in the final United Soccer Coaches poll, released Wednesday, June 24, after a 27-1-1 season and an IHSA Class 3A state title.
The ranking, published by SoccerWire, places the Trevians among the elite programs in the country and adds a national distinction to a postseason run that saw New Trier outlast some of Illinois' strongest programs in overtime and elimination games.
The Trevians claimed the state championship Saturday, June 6, beating Naperville Central 2-1 at North Central College in Naperville. That win came one day after New Trier survived a 2-1 double-overtime semifinal against Edwardsville on Friday, June 5.
Junior Dami Balogun and junior Addy Randall were central to the postseason push. In the supersectional, Randall scored early and Balogun buried a goal at the halftime whistle in a 3-0 rout of Hinsdale Central. Earlier in the bracket, Randall scored three goals and added two assists in a sectional win over Lane Tech.
"Coming into that (moment), I was a little frustrated. I felt like I was making runs but not really finishing how I wanted to for my team," Balogun told The Record North Shore after the supersectional.
Head coach Burnside was named the 2025 NHSACA National Soccer Coach of the Year, an honor covering both boys' and girls' programs nationally, according to New Trier Athletics.
New Trier's returning core of Balogun and Randall gives the program a foundation heading into 2027.
