Lily Long, a Winnetka native and 2017 New Trier High School graduate, has landed on Amazon Prime with "Fluff Piece," a 10-episode children's series she produces, acts in, and partially wrote. The show premiered Wednesday, July 9, on Prime Video through the Wonder Project channel.
"Fluff Piece" follows reporter Fiona Flash and her dog sidekick, Fluff, as they investigate small-town mysteries while teaching young viewers to ask better questions, read the fine print, and never trust a rumor at face value.
Long plays Stevie the Plumber, a high-energy character who inadvertently spreads rumors and tells dad jokes. She also performs two original songs as Stevie: "Ten Thousand Smells" and "Hysteria," composed by Devin Delaney.
"The show's goal, alongside being entertaining, is to help kids learn how to ask questions, and how to ask the right questions when they're curious about things," Long told The Record North Shore. "That goes hand in hand with the media literacy and critical thinking skills which, in this day and age, are very important."
From Wilmette stage to streaming screen
Long started acting at age 4. She trained at the Actors Training Center at 1159 Wilmette Ave. in Wilmette before joining New Trier's drama program, where she landed the lead role in "She Kills Monsters" as a junior. She credits New Trier's "large, competitive" drama community with pushing her to work harder.
After graduating, Long earned a BFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, then a master's degree in screenwriting from University College Dublin. She completed the Dublin program while simultaneously flying back to film Season 2 of "Fluff Piece," returning to Ireland the day before classes started.
"It was a whirlwind," Long said.
What families should know
"Fluff Piece" is available through the Wonder Project, a subscription add-on to Prime Video priced at $8.99 per month or $89.99 per year, with a seven-day free trial. The Wonder Project channel features family-oriented programming, including faith-based content, though "Fluff Piece" is a secular children's educational series.
The show is produced by The Mad Ones studio. Its cast includes Sylvia Brindis, Elizabeth Morales, Christopher St. Mary, Brian Donegan, Jonathan Desir, and Stephanie Brindis. Sylvia Brindis and Brian Donegan created the series.
Young viewers are called "Newshounds" and invited to help crack each episode's case. Episode titles include "The Pegasus," "Blue Drink," "The Whispering Books," and "The Rainbow Puddles."
Long told The Record North Shore she wrote a Season 2 episode titled "Evil Twin," which has already been filmed. Season 2 is set to premiere at the end of 2026 on the Wonder Project channel.
