Three communities are closing out Pride Month with a storytelling evening in Glencoe, a flag giveaway at the Wilmette French Market, and a free family celebration in Skokie — offering residents several ways to mark June before the month ends.
Evanston Pride Inc., the volunteer-run nonprofit behind six years of youth car parades, community picnics, and remembrance ceremonies, will not hold events this summer. Co-founders Patty Finley and Rada Yovovich announced the hiatus in May, citing burnout among a small organizing core. They invited community members to reach out if interested in helping rebuild capacity.
The gap leaves the broader North Shore with a shorter Pride calendar than in recent years. Winnetka, Kenilworth, and Northfield do not have village-organized Pride events scheduled. But three celebrations remain before the month ends.
Writers Theatre: Show & Tell: True Colors

Wilmette HRC Pride Booth at the French Market
The Village of Wilmette's Human Relations Commission will staff a Pride Booth at the French Market on Saturday, June 27, just east of the Wilmette Metra Station at 722 Green Bay Road. Commissioners will hand out Progress Pride flags and offer photo opportunities. The village installed Progress Pride banners along Green Bay Road and in the Linden Square business district for the month, and Board President Plunkett read the LGBTQ+ Pride Month proclamation at the June 9 Board of Trustees meeting.
