Glencoe families who depend on Children's Circle child care or Glencoe Fitness will need to make other plans next week. The Takiff Center at 999 Green Bay Road shuts down Monday, Aug. 10, through Friday, Aug. 14, for annual maintenance and a slate of facility improvements.

The five-day closure affects the Glencoe Park District's main hub, which houses a gymnasium, meeting rooms, a community hall, early childhood classrooms and the Children's Circle program. That licensed, full-day child care facility serves children from six weeks old to kindergarten, meaning parents of infants and preschoolers face the biggest scheduling scramble.

According to the Glencoe Park District's announcement, crews will tackle Community Room renovations, new flooring in Classroom 217, S.T.E.A.M. classroom improvements, security enhancements in the early childhood wing, back parking lot sealcoating, deep cleaning, painting, and fire alarm and suppression testing.

The listed projects are routine annual maintenance, separate from the $14.7 million bond referendum Glencoe voters approved in November 2024. Those referendum dollars are directed toward Glencoe Beach upgrades, Takiff Athletic Field improvements, a community greenhouse and a parks maintenance facility.

What stays open

Glencoe Beach keeps its normal schedule, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, throughout the closure week. The Weinberg Family Recreation Center at 305 Randolph will host Summer's End camp for families needing programming alternatives.

The Takiff Center reopens Saturday, Aug. 15.

The closure comes as the district continues a period of investment in its facilities. The Glencoe Park District is a 2026 National Gold Medal Award finalist for the second consecutive year, with the winner to be announced at the National Recreation and Park Association conference in late September.

Families with questions can reach the Glencoe Park District at (847) 835-3030.
