Wilmette District 39's school board meets Monday, August 10 at the Mikaelian Education Center, 615 Locust Road, in its last governance session before students at Central, Harper, McKenzie, Romona, Highcrest Middle School, and Wilmette Junior High return for the 2026-27 school year.
D39's first half-day of attendance is Wednesday, August 19. The first full school day is Thursday, August 20.
The August 10 Committee of the Whole is a working session where board members discuss policy and planning before formal votes at regular meetings. The specific agenda has not been posted. Per district practice, agendas appear on the D39 website the Friday before each meeting, so families should check on or after Friday, August 7.
What the board approved in June
At its Monday, June 15 regular meeting, the board approved a new five-year strategic plan (2026–31) with implementation beginning this school year. In an official announcement, the district described the plan as a roadmap focused on its key strategic priorities for the next five years. The planning process included community focus groups held in February 2026 at the Mikaelian Education Center.
The June 15 meeting also approved the FY27 District 39 tentative budget, authorized a public budget hearing, and approved the FY27 Wilmette Community Special Education Agreement (WCSEA) tentative budget. WCSEA covers special education services for D39 students and carries its own separate budget line.
The board introduced an assistant principal candidate for Romona Elementary and approved an administrative raise for 2026-27. As of June, the district was actively recruiting paraprofessionals for the new school year, a staffing signal worth tracking for families whose children rely on classroom aides under IEPs or 504 plans.
How to attend
Residents may address the board in person during the public comment period. Each speaker is allotted up to four minutes per meeting (three minutes in the first window, one additional minute in the second). Meetings are live-streamed on the district's YouTube channel (WilmetteDistrict39).
