Wilmette families can watch vehicle extrications, meet Sparky the Fire Dog and peek inside fire trucks at Fire Station 26's annual open house on Saturday, Oct. 3.
The free event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the station, 1304 Lake Ave. Activities include apparatus displays, firefighter demonstrations and teddy bear check-ups, according to a Village of Wilmette civic alert.
The open house is free.
No registration is required.
Fire Station 26 was built in 1964. On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the Wilmette Village Board approved a contract for architectural services to begin modernizing the station and Fire Station 27, funded by a $350,000 state grant, The Record North Shore reported.
No rain date or cancellation policy has been announced. The village's community events calendar lists the open house but directs residents to check back for updates.
